Offline sponsors from Joanne

Thank you to Eve Cannon, Lesley Ackland, Chris Keeping , David Muffett and Mary Cox for their offline promises to donate!

It's been such a long time.....

.....since I last wrote on here, I'm almost ashamed.

Things have been going well, training has been mixed but fruitful across the board, weather reports have been checked out and the money trickling in slowly but surely. There's so many of us at work that are doing it this year that we've all decided to pick one person and just sponsor them but every single penny raised is worth loads so please dig deep people!

Thanks to June and Ron and Glenn and Karen for their sponsorship - Lynn tells me that she's "not sure how much I've got cos the form's gone all over the building and passed around left right and centre".

We're ready. T-shirts to be done next, carb intake to be upped and pray for: good weather, nice breeze, not too hot, no rain or wasp stings. Thank you!!!

Diary mutterings of Gwen....part two

Welcome to the plus two members of our team - I quite like the "seven plus two go mad in Blackheath" title. Am not sulking any more, 10 May 2008 my race pack arrived in the post. Really love my "walk correctly" trainers after the initial ache in my legs, they are soooo comfy. I'm in danger of wearing them out and having to buy another pair for July.

I have my "all weather" outfit: white T-shirt, garish pink cropped trousers, blue trainers, sedate beige (with pink ribbon) sun hat, keep cool navy scarf and last but not least a sky blue poncho mac that folds up to the size of a credit card holder. Have I forgotten anything Seven (plus two) team? Apart from my colour co-ordination that is!

Went for a trial walk round Dulwich Park, nice rhododenrons out at the moment, had my camera. Now, did I allow for the stopping and taking of photographs in my time slot? Getting better on my time, hope to improve on the original timing. How is everyone else in our team training? Only nine weeks to go!

Going to walk round park once a week for the next four weeks then step up to twice a week for 3 weeks and the last two weeks ease off, to just normal walking - that's without walking to the shops and labrador training of course. That I shall keep going. I cannot stand to see a labrador sulk - beats me at sulking that's for sure, I can't get the "look" right.

Lots to tell you.....

Well! Where do I start? On Sunday I was halfway up a ladder painting a wall when my phone beep-beeped with a text. Who was it, I hear you ask? It was young Bobby Mitchell, hear me answer you. For it was she, texting to tell me that she was doing Race for Life and wanted to join Seven Go Mad on Blackheath (technically speaking it's now Eight Go Mad but she's got her own web page and it'll look funny if I.....look. Once Bobby has sent me her link I'll add it to our fundraising page and this delightful bloglette so you can all visit her too). Anyway. Yes, our merry little band is growing, as is our list of sponsors!

Online we must say mucho thanks to Sue and Sandi the cat and David Wederell for their donations......Sue, I must have walked miiiiiiiiles in Waldron today!

Offline, Gwen has been busy with her sponsorship form with promises to sponsor us from Peggy Burchell, Sheila Ryan, Edna Sharp, Peggy Ball, Jean Ball and Uncle Mick.

We've all got our packs (I hope!) and we're raring to go! Training walks in Dulwich Park and a team lunch at Harvesters being the top of our agenda. Clearly!

Diary mutterings of Gwen.....part one

Training advice - borrow a dog
Speaking personally this works, a certain Labrador has taken me for walks - I'm sure he's trying for the fastest time though. He lets me sit on a wall (for a count of ten) then it gets boring. My friend reliably informs me a certain bulldog will quite happily sit by the wall and let you walk. Ho hum.

Training shoes
Found some shoes that "claim" to allow you to walk correctly. NOW THEY TELL ME!! For the last....da de da....years I've got it all wrong?

Pedometers - can you believe them?
According to my March/April calculations, if my little grey cells and the pedometer are to be believed, I should walk 3.6 miles in 2 to 2.5 hours, dependent on the weather. Hot = walk slow, cold = walk a bit quicker. Now the pedometer, which all of a sudden started to whiz round through the readings like a demented wind turbine thingy, is showing a blank screen.

I'll have to rely on walking round Dulwich Park track that is measured out for us - yet to be a tried and tested route for me, others have (I understand) did this last year!

Mo' money

More online sponsorship from Julie O'Farrell all the way over there in the Emerald Isle - I found some pictures the other day of Alice and Jessica, bless them! Hope you're all well xx

Also, thank you to the lovely Lady V who works at my spiritual home - I got off the phone to her this morning and had to go to the loo and make a strong coffee - such larks! See you soon.

I got my Race for Life pack through the post on Friday - Gwen hasn't got hers yet and is sulking. Not sure if the others have theirs, no doubt I'll hear soon enough either way! Can't remember my number but it's up there in the ten thousand mark.....woweeeeeeee, it's going to be packed on the Heaf!

Hello and welcome!

Thank you so much for visiting our on-line diary - I will try and get as much on here as I possibly can. You know the sort of thing: our training methods, the special diets we're all following, news on any injuries (I broke a nail yesterday) and even the odd interview with one of the team if you can possibly bear it.

Following the success of last year, we've decided to give another go this year. There are some changes to the team this year with Gwen, Marianne, Rene and Pat breaking out their trainers and upping their carb intake. Gwen, Marianne and Rene were part of the Support Team last year and I think they actually walked further than Sally, Lynn, Marian and I did! Haha!

We hope you can come and support us on the Heath this year, it was great to see so many of you cheering us on.
